Hidup Cup Feeding!

Yah, namanya juga nyari penguat iman... Ini cuplikan artikel penguat niat gw untuk terus pakai soft cup buat Senja.

If the mother is temporarily unable to breastfeed, then expressing breast milk is recommended. Cup feeding is an alternative to the bottle and teat method of feeding expressed breast milk and other fluids to infants. Cup feeding has benefits over using a bottle and teat. The infant can pace its own intake, making breathing easier to control, and swallowing occurs when the infant is ready (Lang 1994). The cup must be held so that the milk is just touching the infant’s lips and is not poured into its mouth. Cup feeding fosters early positive body and eye contact. Another benefit may be that the infant does not have to cope with a nipple or teat in its mouth. UNICEF promotes cup feeding as a more appropriate infant feeding method for expressed breast milk than the bottle and teat. However, it remains a controversial practice for infants who have immature or impaired suck or swallow co-ordination because of prematurity or other reasons.

Dan rupanya ada teknik tertentu untuk memberikan ASI perahan dengan soft cup. Perasaan waktu di Klinik Laktasi Carolus gak diajarin sedetil ini deh... Kita semua belajar dari pengalaman langsung bersama Senja.

* cup-feed your baby only when he is fully awake and alert
* wrap the baby to restrain his hands, so that he cannot swipe at the cup with the cup about half-full, hold it so that it is just touching the baby's mouth and reaches the corners of his mouth, resting it only lightly on his lower lip
* start by allowing him just a tiny sip to encourage him
* DO NOT pour the milk into his mouth; tip it just enough so that he can lap it himself, bringing his tongue forward to do it
* keep the cup in this tilted position
* DO NOT take the cup away when the baby pauses, unless he pulls away allow him to resume when he is ready and let him set his own pace follow your baby's cues

Semoga lancarrrrrr... Hidup soft cup! Hidup cup feeding!
